YARD WASTE WILL START ON MARCH 25, 2024. Yard Waste Collection will end during the week of December 12. The day of your garbage collection during this week will be your last week for bagging yard waste. The final day is December 14, 2024.

On September 30th 2016 Rizzo Services became part of GFL (Green for Life) Environmental.

There is a Holiday this week, will my trash pick-up be late?
If regular service day is on a holiday listed below all rubbish collection may be delayed one day.

These are the only holidays with no rubbish collection.
New Year's Day - Memorial Day - Independence Day - Labor Day - Thanksgiving Day - Christmas Day

The city contracts out its regular trash pick-up, yard waste pick-up, and recycling to GFL. The pick-ups are all made on your regularly scheduled trash day. A separate truck is used for each of the above pick-ups and the last pick-up could be late in the day. If your pick-up is not made, call no later than noon the day after the scheduled pick-up and the DPS will find out why.

REGULAR TRASH

Place your trash can in the easement or approach of your driveway prior to 6:00 a.m. on your pick-up day.
It has come to our recent attention questions on trash/recycle can placement. GFL staff would like you to place your can on the easement (grass area at curb) and not in the street. If you are unable to place your can in the easement then you may place on the approach (corner of your driveway at curb). If you have low lying tree branches be mindful of can placement due to the height of the truck. Parked cars in the street is also another reason to be mindful of placement. This may be when you want to utilize your driveway approach for can placement. Also, please allow a minimum of 1 foot to separate your trash can from your recycle can. This allows easier can retrieval by the automatic truck arm.

Furniture (Beds, Mattresses, Couches, Chairs, TV Sets, etc.) can be put out with Regular Trash. But the Trash Bin must also be placed out.

YARD WASTE Collection Begins March 25, 2024

Michigan Law prohibits disposing of yard waste in a landfill. This means you are required to separate yard waste from regular trash.

Place Yard Waste at the curb before 6:00 a.m. on your regular trash pickup day 10 feet from your regular trash.

Yard Waste includes Grass Clippings, Leaves, Tree Trimmings, Shrubs, Bushes. Shrubs, bushes and branches must be properly prepared. No longer than three feet lengths and bundled with rope material, no larger than 15 inches in diameter. Condense as much as possible. Dirt, sod, woodchips and large stock wood are not acceptable items for curbside pickup. Use a can no larger than 32 gallons (lid required).

A "COMPOST" STICKER MUST BE ON THE CAN. Stickers are available at the DPS and City Clerk's Offices. Containers can be marked with paint or marker as long as it clearly states "COMPOST".

Large brown paper compost bags may be used for yard waste and do not need special markings. These can be purchased at large retail stores, lawn and garden stores, etc.

Yard Waste will not be accepted in plastic bags, grocery bags, cardboard boxes or other unapproved containers.

**SPECIAL PICKUPS**

Our policy has changed for Special Pickups. There will be a service charge for all special pick ups. $20.00 minimum for the first two yards and $10.00 for every yard thereafter.
