It has certainly been a busy few months since I was elected by the residents to serve as your Mayor.
As your Mayor I am working hard to improve the community services and programs that make Woodhaven a great place to live.
When I took office, I sat down with the Mayor of our neighboring community Trenton. We were able to work out a program so that our residents can use the Trenton City Pool and Ice Rink at the same prices that the Trenton Residents pay.
I also was able to work out a program so that Woodhaven now has a "Municipal Golf Course". Woodside Meadows, which is located at the corner of Inkster Road & King Road is now our official Municipal Course! Just as other cities like Taylor or Riverview have golf courses that give their residents a reduced rate for golf, now we too have that for our residents. Simply show your ID to the folks at the golf course and you will get $5.00 off of a round of 18 holes or $3.00 off of a round of 9 holes. Most importantly, unlike other cities, we didn't have to spend millions of dollars to construct a golf course and we don't have to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to maintain it. This is a great deal for Woodhaven residents!
We will soon begin construction on a new "Safety Town" to teach our children important lessons on safety. For our Senior Citizens, we have already started to improve the "Senior Wing" at the Community Center and we will be putting in a beautiful patio there along with bocce ball courts. This summer we will begin a Park Improvement Program by renovating our Civic Park with a new pavilion, a full football field, landscaping and improved walking paths.
I have also started a program called "Reading Across Woodhaven" This program features City Council Members and Department Heads going to our Elementary Schools and reading to the children each month. This program has been a great success and I look forward to continuing it next school year.
Recently, our Fire Department provided first aid kits to our schools to help in case of an emergency. Additionally, our Fire Chief was able to secure two scholarships at Wayne County Community College for their Fire Services program.
This administration is working hard for our residents. Some hard choices have had to be made to meet our budget. We have cut our budget over $2 million dollars since I took office, and I see our community as one of the few that has reduced costs and yet still continues to bring more services to our residents.
Please feel free to contact me at any time should you have any questions or concerns.
My Sincerest Regards
Mayor Odette
