The City Clerk's Office is responsible for many diverse functions of the City, acting as both an internal and external office. All City departments, City Council, City Boards and Commissions, residents, community organizations and businesses benefit from the services offered by this Office.
The City Clerk attends and records all City Council meetings. The City Clerk also prepares the City Council meeting agendas and information packets. All public hearings, legal notices and advertisements are posted and submitted for publishing by the Clerk's Office.
As Keeper of the Records, the Clerk maintains all files and permanent records of the City, such as: City Codes, Ordinances, Resolutions, Council, Boards and Commissions meeting minutes, bids, summonses, lawsuits, all legal documents, contracts and agreements. The City Clerk is the custodian of the City Seal and certifies copies of City documents. Also, this Office processes requests filed under the Freedom of Information Act, maintains the City government cable channel and provides Street Index maps, Zoning maps and Precinct maps for a nominal fee.
The Clerk's Office serves as the liaison/secretary for City Council, the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals and the Downtown Development Authority and is responsible for assisting and processing Rezoning, Special Use Permit and Site Plan Applications, as well as Zoning Board of Appeals applications, and the preparation of their agenda packets and recording meeting minutes.
The City Clerk's Office also handles and processes all subdivision plats, easements and agreements, street vacations and is responsible for recording documents with the Wayne County Register of Deeds. License applications for solicitors, peddlers, massage and dog and cat licenses are processed by the Clerk's Office. Both new and transfer liquor license applications are processed for City Council consideration by this Office.
The City Clerk receives and processes all Boards and Commissions applications. After appointment by City Council, the Clerk administers the Oath of Office to all new members. The Clerk's Office provides Notary Public service and is a designated U. S. Department of State Passport Processing Agent.

Register to vote for federal, state, and local elections at the Woodhaven City Clerk's Office, located at 21869 West Road, Woodhaven or at any of the 180 Michigan Secretary of State branch offices.
Whenever you move to a new city or township, you must register to vote there. If you move within the City you need not re-register, but you must update your new address with the City Clerk's office, at your polling place on election day or at a Secretary of State branch office.
A very important function of the Clerk's Office is to administer all local, state and national elections. This office maintains all voter registration records, processes all absentee ballot applications, hires and trains precinct workers, tabulates election results, verifies nominating petitions, and conducts accuracy tests on election programs and equipment.
