Department of Parks
and Recreation
Welcome to the Department of Parks and Recreation!

The Department of Parks & Recreation's is committed to providing quality recreational programs, services and facilities for all our residents! Resident will discover a wide range of enrichment and leisure classes providing many benefits including ways to improve and maintain healthier and more active lifestyles. The department in conjunction with the Department of Public Services maintains over 116 acres of parkland consisting of seven parks throughout the city.  With over 71 acres, Civic Center Park is the largest park in the City. It is centrally located, south of West Road, and incorporates City Hall and the Community Center. This community park is a City landmark visible from motorists traveling along I-75.

For years, Civic Center Park was home to many community sports programs anchored by the Henry Ford Ball Field Complex. Using the master plan as a guide, in the past six years the City has created and expanded quality individual and family opportunities by constructing an interactive play fountain/splash pad, the Big Timber playscape, Safety Town, an inline skating rink, skate park, football field, dog park, fitness and walking trails, tennis and bocce ball courts, renovated the existing volleyball courts and installed new shade systems. As a result of the park's location, renovations and improvements, residents of all ages use the park on a daily basis throughout the year.

Civic Center Park and community center serve as primary sites for a majority of community-wide events, including the Annual Tree Lighting, Easter Event, Community Festival (July), Halloween and several community fundraisers that positively impact local charities.

Our community center is also the home of the Woodhaven Senior Citizen's Club. Senior citizens enjoy year round activities including health, wellness and sports programs. Many senior citizens participate in an active travel program featuring visits to historical locations, sporting events, shopping venues and unique dining establishment.  Senior residents utilize the city’s Woodhaven on Wheels service which provides transportation with a wheelchair accessible van for essential errands such as doctor's appointments and grocery shopping.

The department is committed to providing needed support services for our residents.   In cooperation with Wayne County a monthly food distribution program is held on the 4th Tuesday of every month.  The department also delivers meals to homebound residents on a daily basis during the week. Throughout the year, the staff works with various community organization and the school district providing facility support for charitable projects that impact Woodhaven and surrounding area including the Woodhaven-Trenton Animal Shelter, Kiwanis Club of Woodhaven, Relay for Life, veterans and school fundraising projects.

The parks and recreation department staff members are honored to serve the residents and committed to working hard to provide quality programs, services and facilities.  Residents are encouraged to contact the department to share their thoughts, comments, ideas and suggestions related to current and future programs and services.

Sincerely,
Woodhaven Parks and Recreation Department Staff
